What You Need to Know
DO YOU PERFORM ANY PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS?
No! Physical exams are fully the responsibility of your care provider.
HOW WILL HIRING YOU AFFECT MY PARTNER’S ROLE DURING THE BIRTH?
Part of my job is to help your partner best support you. We will work together as a team to help ensure you have the best birth experience. I can offer suggestions to your partner, take over if they need to eat or step out for a moment and help them navigate this (potentially) brand new experience as well!
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH MEDICAL STAFF LIKE?
The medical staff are running the show, I can assist them by grabbing supplies if they ask, but I am employed by you. I do not speak on your behalf, but can help you understand what they might be saying, and help you form questions to ask.
WHAT IF MY BABY COMES EARLY?
My on-call period begins 2 weeks before your due date. If baby comes before that time and I am available I will attend. If I am unavailable I can try my best and arrange for a back-up doula to attend.
WILL YOU ATTEND A HOME BIRTH?
Yes! I can attend births in home, as long as there will be a medical care provider.
