'Eleena' means ray of sun, or bright light. While theres no doubt Eleena is my ray of sun and my bright light, the story of how she got her name isn't quite that simple.
Eleena was born very sick and was airlifted to BC Children's when she was less than 24 hours old. You can read more about her story in another post coming soon! Eleena was the nameless baby for 3 days! Her hospital chart read 'Baby Girl Rumbolt'. We had talked about a few names while I was pregnant but really wanted to wait to meet her before we decided on the name.
When I was a little girl, Ena was the lady that babysat us. She became like another family member, another grandma to me and my siblings. Ena was a beautiful soul with a quick smile, patience of a saint and the kindness and softness that just felt like home. Ena unfortunately passed away in 2019 but left us all with hearts full of fond memories. Thats where the 'ena' in Eleena comes from!
We had our list of names and while Eleena was very close to the top we weren't quite sure. I did some research to learn what each name meant.
When Eleena was 3 days old I was very quietly singing 'You are my sunshine' to her. When I got to the part 'please don't take my sunshine away' I had a shift in emotion. I didn't feel like I was singing to my little girl anymore, I felt like I was pleading with the Universe to please don't take her away from me, to please don't take my sunshine. Remembering that Eleena meant 'ray of sun' it hit me so fast, my little girls name was meant to be Eleena.
Months after Eleena had come home I was reminded about the tattoo on the back of my neck. When I was about 1 month pregnant but didn't know it yet, I had a little sun tattooed on the back of my neck. Maybe by coincidence? Maybe the universe was giving me a sign? Either way, before my little girl was even born, I had a little stamp of her existence and what was to come.
